A Beginner's Guide to Cluborate's Discord
The first few times using Discord can be a daunting experience, but my goal today is to (hopefully) make things a little bit easier!
First of all, let’s cover the basics:
LOG IN to your account:
The first step is to register for an account on the Discord webpage
Now that you’ve registered, you should be signed in, but in case you ever sign out, here’s how you can log in again:
If you’re on a browser (chrome, safari, firefox…etc.), go to the discord webpage www.discord.com/login and click on Open Discord in Your Browser
If you have downloaded the app, simply open the app
Next, you will see the ‘login page’. Here, type in your email address or phone number that is linked to your Discord account
Finally, enter the password associated with your Discord account, and you’re in!
- To start chatting, simply join a server! You can choose to ask your friends for an invite link, OR join Cluborate’s server via https://discord.gg/kKgy844FQ4
When you enter, you will receive a ‘welcome’ message from a bot. After that, you are free to navigate the server. You will notice that there are two types of channels: text channels and voice channels.
Text channels (#)
Text channels are, essentially, a place for you to talk over text
In Cluborate’s server, each text channel has a title so you’ll know what goes where
Voice channels (🔊)
Unlike text channels, voice channels lack…well, the texting feature
Although you can still text in texting channels while you’re in a voice channel, everyone in the server still has access to the texting channel as well.
Another thing to note is that there is no calling or ringing required; you simply click on a voice channel and you’re in! Anyone in the server can see when you’re in a voice channel.
Here are some voice channel features:
Mute/Unmute
Camera on/off
Deafen (prevents you from hearing others and mutes yourself)
Share screen
Remember to press DISCONNECT when you’ve finished chatting in a voice channel!
Next is the not-so-basic-but-still-useful basics:
Number one is how to navigate settings:
On a browser, the settings icon should be at the bottom left hand corner, beside your name.
- Connected to settings, we have listening to spotify together
First connect your spotify account
Head to User Settings by clicking the settings icon in the lower-left of Discord. Go to the Connections tab, and then click on the Spotify logo and connect your accounts.
If you want to invite your friends to listen along, click the + in your chat bar!
NOTE: to invite your friends to listen along, they will need Spotify Premium
This is not a comprehensive list and only covers the minimal basics! If this article interests you, be sure to leave us a suggestion or write your OWN blog post about it!
From life lessons to interesting hacks, you can write about practically anything! All we ask is that your blog is ORIGINAL and has a word count of between 200 to 1000 words. *If this opportunity piques your interest, submit your blog through this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1mzY_r591qAj-SifCmD7AzhhRs7QdhAwqiTzfHUCqnNo/edit?usp=sharing !
